GoDaddy refund policy: check your product before cancelling

Understand current refund windows, product exceptions, renewal dates, and the difference between cancellation and a refund request.

GoDaddy refund eligibility depends on the exact product, transaction date, subscription term, location, and whether a service has already been performed. Unused prepaid months do not automatically create a proportional refund.

Check the invoice and contact support promptly before deleting a product or closing the account. Turning off renewal, ending service, and requesting money back are separate actions.

Start with the current policy and its exceptions

The GoDaddy refund policy, revised September 14, 2026 and checked for this article, gives standard windows of 30 days for annual plans and 48 hours for shorter-than-annual plans. Its transaction definition includes processed renewals. Product and regional exceptions can override those defaults.

For example, annual Microsoft 365 and Websites + Marketing plans have a seven-day window in the current policy. Domains have their own rules. Security remediation and performed services can restrict eligibility; free-domain bundles can reduce the refund amount. The policy requires contacting customer service within the applicable window and says eligibility ends after account closure.

These examples are a starting point, not a determination for your invoice. Read the matching product section and regional terms, and ask support to identify the provision it is applying.

Keep the three decisions separate

DecisionWhat to confirm
Stop future renewalWhich subscription will stop renewing and how long current service remains active.
End or delete the productWhen website, mailbox, backup, or other data becomes unavailable.
Request a refundEligibility, amount, destination, and the reference for the request.

A product disappearing from the dashboard does not prove that a refund has been approved. Likewise, a refund enquiry does not necessarily disable renewal. Save confirmation for each intended action.

Build the request from the invoice

Collect the order number, exact product name, charge date and timezone, term, amount, and whether the charge was an initial purchase or renewal. Note any bundled domain, add-on, migration work, or security cleanup. Keep payment details private when sharing screenshots.

State the action you want clearly. For example: “Please confirm whether order [number], charged on [date] for [product and term], is eligible for a refund. Please identify the applicable product rule, the refundable amount, and what happens to the service if I proceed.”

If the timing is close to a deadline, open the request immediately through the provider’s official support channel. Do not spend the remaining window waiting for an informal forum answer. Preserve the request timestamp and case number.

Protect the service before cancellation

Inventory what the product still supplies: website files, database, email, DNS, certificates, and backups may have different subscriptions. Export what you need and confirm the replacement works before terminating a live dependency.

Email deserves particular care. A mailbox deletion can affect access to domain and hosting recovery messages. For a Microsoft 365 departure, follow the GoDaddy email migration guide before cancelling licenses or deleting accounts.

If you are only reducing future expenses, compare the safe end-of-term path with immediate cancellation. An uncertain refund is not a reason to remove the only working copy of a business site.

Read the outcome before planning around the money

Ask for the approved amount, whether it returns to the original payment method or another destination, and the expected processing timeframe. Check the resulting account and payment records instead of assuming that a support conversation completed the transaction.

If a request is denied, ask for the product-specific reason and any available review process. Contract terms and mandatory local consumer rights can differ; obtain local advice if you need a legal determination. Use confirmed recoverable costs in your migration budget, and treat an unapproved refund as uncertain.
